Eventful?

Ooo~! Someone from Japan reads my blogs....i wonder who ahahahahhahaha....

alright then...time for some update.

Believe it or not i was actually one of the top book borrowers in the whole University of Malaya for the undergraduate category! I found out about it yesterday while driving when i kept on receiving calls on my handphone. I did not even want to pick it up cos of late everyone knows that Federal Highway is infested with them traffic officers...

But i picked it up when the third call came in.
"Congratulations for bla bla bla bla.....please make yourself present on bla bla bla" which was ...today. Most of the students don't know abut it but too bad that the UM lecturers actually read the UMinfo thingy. *haihz* Basically had i not been informed about the "ceremony" someone else would have told me eventually.ahhahah

Therefore, to accommodate the penganugerahan, i had to have my crit session earlier so as to be able to leave studio by 4 pm. The only problem? My floor plans werent even half done...heck...even my bubble diagrams were like...questionable.

My assigned tutor for the day (i hope it's only for the day!) went straight to my table cos he thought i was going to go off soon. Isshhh.... i was not really prepared but thought maybe he could hear my concepts and intentions...who knows, maybe by having a discussion...it would aid me in accomplishing my task faster?

To my dismay (but i guess i should have expected it from him) when he noticed i did not have the floor area written in numbers, he was quick to refuse listening further to my design intentions. aaaahhh.... you see...i had it worked out already. based on grid, should it not be the same? And thus, barely 10 mins later...my so called crit session came to its end. And the thoughts running in my head was " hmm...what exactly is it that i can work on for now?" We already know plans, even our designs get rejected almost all the time....but is it that hard to spend some time listening?

"If you talk and i talk...we'd get nowhere" I went "huh?!?!?!" in my head. Isn't that wat a discussion is all about? A discussion is not about a monologue. it's a two way thing.

I was in no mood to further pursue my design for the day. Found another 'lost' soul to accompany me to the library carnival and went out from the studio 30 mins earlier than planned. Makes no diff...it wasn't as if he'd listen again on the same day. I tried asking..to reschedule...but using the excuse of family matter...my request could not be entertained. oh well. i guess i reli have to just deal with it.

At the library, i managed to grab yet another free book. hahaha. don't ask me why i love books. i love having them...not that i actually read ALL of them! XD

"Erm...saya nak register untuk penganugerahan...tah pape"
That gave some weird reactions by the people...including Nurie.
When my name was mentioned, the first thing the head pustakawan said was " Oh i KNOW u"
But then again....who doesn't. I have parents who've served UM for more than 20 years. Sometimes, i wonder if it is really that good that people know who my parents are. but sometimes, it does have its perks. Let's skip that part shall we?

"Wow, you're very loyal to the library eh...like the mother!" hahah....who said im loyal to anything?

Came time for the group pic....i was busy chatting with the head librarian who kept asking me about architecture (You know, the usual questions like...how many years....) She has a daughter doing pra alam bina here it seems. hmm....small world. I fear how my pic will turn out tho. since i din smile for the camera at all! i'm quite a self conscious fella afterall....XD

That basically sums up my day. The day i name "money day".hehehehehhe

Concepts and Ideas. Guidance please~!

"Balance"?....No...too direct and possibly suicidal.
How about "Flexibility"?...might not be such a good idea as it shows weakness.
Hmm..."Intrigue" then? Well, what one finds 'intriguing' might not necessarily be intriguing to another...

I'm stuck! STUCK! i tell u....
It's now past midnite and i'm still busy scratching my head over the concept for my next project....the "wau cottage industry".
I did the precedent study for the batik industry but was instead (i dunno whether by luck or rather...lack of) pushed into the direction of the wau.

So right now, trying to make the best of things, studying all i can about the wau (that one key idea that could possibly tie all the issues i'm trying to resolve at one go) Help..anyone?

Talking bout being lost. This evening we ( i shall maintain the privacy of the individual and shall not disclose her name) had a mr bean moment trying to find where we parked the car. Assuming from the time we took to go all the way up earlier on, we went straight to level 9 when it came time to leave. Nope. it was not level 9. I guess that's the danger of only taking me along to anywhere. I think my next door neighbour's cat is more observant than i am. hahahah...
The hilarious thing was the fact that i stayed in the lift while she ran out and checked if her car was at that level!
After some time, ..(and a few floors later...) and not being able to find the right level...still! we then opted for the staircase. And voila..after about 10 mins ...we finally found our transport back! hurray! Note to self : Next time, pls pls pls....read whatever that is that's on the columns and COMMIT IT TO MEMORY!!! hahaha...
I never mind getting lost as ive gotten used to it since small. But i pity the poor soul who accompanies me.

A convenient "fren"

A convenient friend.
Can you even consider that as one?
Friends won't ever need to ask.
Friends won't think only of individual needs,
or when circumstances would suit them.

"friendship"? or do you mean superficiality?

It's alive!!!!

Yes. I'm back blogging about my packed schedule. However uninteresting it may be.

Let's have a lil walk down memory lane now shall we...?

Quite recently, the 3rd year studio went to Kota Bharu for our urban analysis/site visit.
For the 41 of us, we took a double decker meant for 60 people....that meant a huge bump in the bus fare. Okay, we shall not go deeper into financial matters as it is just plain boooring don't ya think? XD

Left UM bus terminal at 3pm and reached the MGU hotel (the place we were to stay at for 4 days) at around 11.30 pm. Road trips are always oh-so-interesting eh. While we still had halfway to go before reaching KB, we made a stop at this roadside stall where they serve only ready-made dishes and guess what....Maggi. Maggi with chicken, maggi with chicken and egg...or ...with just egg. I shared my maggi with Kina and even then we could not finish it. That was the beginning of my 'trouble with food' chapter for the whole trip. hahhahaha. i should have been aware of the "signs"

To keep within the budget, we all stayed in dorms. One for the 14 boys and another for the girls. Oh yeah...before i forget to mention. We all thought we only had 24 girls in the trip. The miscalculation lasted till our second last day in KB. can u just imagine that!
Anyway, the dormitory....let me recall....HAD INSUFFICIENT BEDS. There were these double decker beds where 2 were to sleep on the bottom bunk while one gets the top bunk. Unfortunately, they only had room for 20! So a whole lot of commotion were made at that time (i think it was around 12.30 am) There were people complaining of hunger, people who wanted to bathe before going to sleep...and those who just wanted to jump into bed ( i.e. me as i was not keen on listening to the ghost stories some people just love to share when they reach a new place~! heheheh)

So yeah....we did not have enough beds. I got mine. Next problem? There were only 3 toilets. 3!! and get this...only 1 had a showerhead installed. As the clock struck 1 am, we were all perplexed on how these 3 small cubicles were supposed to accommodate our lot of 25. hmmm...

We were supposed to be ready to meet up with our lecturer by 8 am. Yet , noone was asleep. There was the incessant chatter, people eating ( u know...the hungry ones) and like me....i could not sleep as my active imagination made me visualise something coming out of the suspended ceiling right above me.hahahhaa....now that i think about it, i was being rather silly.

I did manage to get some sleep. well..better than none. At 6 am, footsteps could already be heard. There were already those getting ready for the long day ahead. Unfortunately though, girls will still be girls. On average, how long do you think one person spent in the toilet? We queued to get into the toilets and yet, we STILL barely made it on time to meet our lecturer at the entrance foyer.

Breakfast. The most important meal of the day.
Qaha, our only kelantanese studiomate suggested that we made our way to Pasar Besar Siti Khadijah. And so we did. and again, i made a boo boo with my food order. I ordered nasi dagang. Now...that should not be an issue rite? no..... i had to 'pandai-pandai' order the sotong as well....and got charged a whopping RM 8 for breakfast. hahhahaha. My tale of rm8 sotong had various reactions from my studiomates.

It was hot. I was too full to be walking. But we had a purpose being there in KB. Therefore, after regrouping, we walked all around to familiarise ourselves with what was gonna be our site for the next 2 projects. My stomach was bothering me so much that i din even take my camera out the entire time we were walking. Oh well, looks like i'll just have to go photo-begging after this!

We walked to site 1. First impression : shocked that it was such an abandoned area. Then off we went to site 2. HOT. hahha....then off to the jetty to physically experience the so called axis that exists in that part of the town.

Off to MPKB then at 11.45 am. They had a presentation prepared for us. This session still rings clear in my mind. What with them saying one thing while the students of UM doing their best to prove to them otherwise. The issue? Of course...on the implementation of the Islamic Facade. In a nutshell, everyone has their own opinions. Trying to convince others may not be as easy as it sounds.

The presentation and the light refreshments ended at about 2.30 pm....after which we were finally divided up into our respective urban analysis groups. I was thrown into streetscape. That meant more photo taking of elevations. Aaaaahhhh.....

After only 2 hours, it started drizzling and so we decided to continue the next day. We had mee celup (is it???) on recommendation by qaha....again. My stomach was still not in tip top shape that time....but i ate nonetheless.

That night, on the initial idea of buying food from the pasar malam, we went out as a group....but ended up walking all the way to the medan selera. the pasar malam sold no food watsoever. it was reli like uptown.

Dinner while it rained heavily beyond the safety of the food stall's canopy was in its own way, ENTERTAINING! Everyone huddling to avoid getting water all over themselves....aah..one of the better times in KB i must say. hahhaha...

That night, we had a postmortem of the day's work to figure out what to present the next day. The problems were just beginning.....
